Plenary Indulgence - What's a Radical Right Wing Catholic to Do?

Many right wing conservative catholics have rejected Pope Francis as either a heretic, an anti-pope or both.  They condemn his every word and action.  There is nothing he can do or say that they will support.

These same right wing catholics are pretty excited today because they can gain a plenary indulgence for All Souls Day.  From one of the premier anti-Francis sites, onepeterfive.com:
Grant #29.1.1For the Souls in Purgatory
Plenary Indulgence
A plenary indulgence, applicable only to the souls in purgatory, is granted each and every day from Nov 1 to Nov 8, who devoutly visit a cemetery and there pray, if only mentally, for the departed.
This article then gives us the requirements for a plenary indulgence:
Requirements for obtaining a plenary indulgence:
  • Do the work while in a state of grace,
  • Receive Sacramental confession within 20 days of the work (several plenary indulgences may be earned per reception),
  • Receive Eucharistic communion (one plenary indulgence may be earned per reception),
  • Pray for the pope’s intentions (Our Father and Hail Mary, or other appropriate prayer, is sufficient),
  • Have no attachment to sin (even venial) – i.e., it is sufficient that the Christian makes an act of the will to love God and despise sin.
Oh, dear, we have a real problem here.  One of the requirements for a plenary indulgence is to pray for the Pope's intentions.  But that means praying for the intentions of the evil heretic, Pope Francis!  What's a "faithful catholic" to do?

Well, it really doesn't matter because another requirement for a plenary indulgence is to be a state of grace, and the "faithful catholics' " rejection of and refusal to submit to the authority of Pope Francis has removed all grace from their souls. Refusal to submit to the authority of the pope is the definition of schism, which is an automatic excommunication.

Of course, they could always repent.

  1. They do pray for the Pope-their prayer for him is Psalm 109:8, sadly. (which I hope doesn't count)

    1. Despite Zuhlsdorf's endorsement on praying for the death of the pope, I don't think it counts.

  2. Why is there nothing in the blog about the whole pachamama thing? The garden pagan ceremony, the stuff in that other church, etc. What are we supposed to think about all that?

    1. I have a post in mind. Maybe post it tomorrow. You probably won't like it.

  3. Re the Pachamama post: It's funny that you say "you probably won't like it." Does that automatically mean that your post will defend and/or minimize the whole thing? Is your job simply to look at what the Holy Father does and then look for ways to defend it without actually THINKING about how beneficial or harmful it could be for thousands of souls when the Holy Father does things that he knows no other Pope would have ever dreamed of doing due to the level of confusion and scandal such things would cause? If that's your type of Catholicism ... I do not know where you learned it!

Re praying for the Pope's intention: this goes to show that you do not know the meaning of such phrase. It does not mean for the actual intentions of the person of the Holy Father. Those intentions are usually set and universal for the whole Church regardless of who the reigning Pope is. It is not what's on his twitter account or what he is thinking at any given moment.

    1. Hey Eddie. It always surprises me to see you here.

My post on Pachamama will be up soon.

I know that nothing I can say will ever convince you. But you really believe that you can call the Pope a heretic, resist obedience to him, actually wish for him to die, and yet still pray for his intentions in order to gain a plenary indulgence?

I am always a little amazed that those who do not understand the Pope never stop to think that they might be wrong, that maybe they don't have complete understanding, or maybe that they are being swayed by people with another kind of agenda.

If the Pope is a heretic, the Catholic Church has ceased to exist. Praying or not praying for his intentions doesn't matter anymore anyway. We're all going to hell.

      Have a nice day.

    1. It is unbelievable, isn't it? They are actually saying that if you support the Pope, you are not Catholic. How dare the Apostolic Nuncio demand allegiance to the Pope? Our world is completely upside down where these people are concerned.

They have, for all intents and purposes, completely separated themselves from Jesus Christ and His Church. Whether they realize it or not, they are in schism.
